January 16-20 Monday the 16th - No school for students Reading Selection: Stretching Ourselves Genre: Expository Nonfiction Comprehension Skill: Generalize Comprehension Strategy: Predict Vocabulary Strategy: Context Clues Vocabulary Words: abdomen, artificial, gait, handicapped, therapist, wheelchair Selection Test Friday Spelling Prefixes over-, under-, sub-, super-, out- Test Friday Grammar Pronouns and Antecedents Quiz Friday Writing Elaboration Focus/Ideas Week of January 23-27 Reading Selection: Exploding Ants Genre: Expository Nonfiction Comprehension Skill: Graphic Sources (graphs, maps, pictures, photos, diagrams) Comprehension Strategy: Monitor and Fix Up (stop, check for understanding, fix it when confused) Vocabulary Strategy: Context Clues Vocabulary Words: critical, enables, mucus, scarce, specialize, sterile Selection Test Friday Spelling Homophones (words that sound alike but have different spellings and meanings - for example, cent, sent) Test Friday Fifth Grade Priority Word List will be handed out - students must master these by the end of the third quarter Grammar Possessive Pronouns Quiz Friday Writing Black History Month project through Technology Class and Classrooms Mood/Animal Stories (if time allows) Class Files No "Class Files" exist(s) Class Links Practice your weekly spelling list. |
